Tania is 14-years-old and lives in New Millennium, a suburb of Tumaco hard hit by the violence generated by drug trafficking and armed groups. Many of the people in her community have been displaced from their homes by the violence.
Tania is recovering from a gunshot wound. She was shot in 2010 as a result of armed conflict in the area. The bullet pierced her intestine and produced an internal infection. She is also suffering from chronic malnutrition. She attends the 4th grade.
Global Humanitaria learned about her case and provided Tania with nutritional support and monitored her recovery closely. We also contribute to her transportation for checkups. Tania's condition has dramatically improved with ongoing nutritional supplements to help her recover from infection and malnutrition.
"My family is very close and we support each other, my brother also works to help with food, because sometimes my mom does not make enough from the sale of fish. When my mother sells fish, I help her take care of my little brother and to fix the house. My older brother helps me with homework and school work, he always takes care of me."
"We have been eight years in this neighborhood and we came here because we could go to school and also because it was closer to the hospital. My house is made of wood. I would like to improve my home; I want to have a bath and a kitchen for my mom."
