In Guatemala, our team on the ground is working with Mayan Q’eqchi women from two communities, El Caoba and Quebrada Seca, to improve access to food by promoting the creation of backyard gardens for family consumption.
Thus, our technicians provide training on how to prepare the land, prepare organic fertilizers and plant vegetables in the appropriate conditions, providing support in the planting design of each garden. We also address the rescue of native seeds such as varieties of chili, chilipín, samat and cilantro.
Technicians from Global Humanitaria previously take care of germinating the seeds of eggplants, chard, cabbages and tomatoes , among others, to deliver the seedlings ready for transplant to more than 24 women who participate in the backyard garden program.
This group of women also participates in the Healthy Homes program, in which Global Humanitaria collaborates with actions to improve hygiene and sanitation in the home, separating clean spaces for food preparation and personal hygiene from those for garbage and disposal. of excreta. Global Humanitaria is also responsible for nutritional monitoring of families.
