This February, Global Humanitaria and NEID prepared hot meals (couscous) at the Khan Younis camp, home to approximately 4,000 displaced people.
In Gaza, a large portion of the population continues to live in dire conditions: improvements in food access are insufficient to meet the needs, resulting in very high levels of malnutrition in areas such as Deir al-Balah and Khan Younis.
According to the UN, this situation is expected to persist until mid-April, given the Israeli authorities’ blockade of humanitarian aid, which could address the urgent needs of hundreds of thousands of people.
The aid provided by international NGOs is also complicated because up to 37 have been expelled by Israel, claiming that they do not comply with the new registration rules, which require them to provide complete information about their employees.
Thus, in our work area west of Khan Yunis, most families live in tents, exposed to the cold and rain. The severe storms of recent weeks have destroyed or damaged thousands of tents, affecting at least 235,000 people, according to the UN.
The rains have also caused buildings damaged by bombing to collapse, resulting in further casualties. Many people, unable to obtain tents, have returned to their bombed-out homes, which are at risk of collapse. Israeli authorities prohibit the import of tent poles, considering them to have potential military applications.
