This April we delivered food (proteins and vegetables) to 6 schools in the municipality of Vacas, thanks to the renewed agreement between Global Humanitaria and the Municipal Autonomous Government. This agreement allows and supports the development of our activities in the communities, with families, schools and school cafeterias.
The deliveries complement the ACE, ( Complementary School Feeding) , a public food security program in schools to improve performance and school permanence.
We have also restarted activities in school gardens: we prepared the soils for sowing seeds and reactivating vegetable production in 12 biogardens in Vacas, Arbieto and Tarata.
Throughout this process, our team on the ground provides support and technical assistance in each educational unit , to ensure that production is diversified and ecological, since the vegetables grown are intended to strengthen the ACE.
A joint strategy: food and education.
The collaboration between the municipal government, the community and Global Humanitaria guarantees the supply of the soup kitchens with a variety of nutritious and fresh foods. Likewise, it encourages the active participation of parents and the community in the process, promoting food security and the development of healthy habits among schoolchildren.
Specifically, the Municipal Autonomous Government of Vacas is responsible for acquiring and supplying the non-perishable foods necessary for the preparation of school menus: rice, lentils, oil, sugar, among others. For their part, families participate in preparing meals; In addition, they provide the canteens with fresh food from the school gardens and their own plots, such as potatoes and vegetables. Global Humanitaria, for its part, provides meat, eggs and fuel gas for kitchens.
