In Sunderbans we continue with literacy classes for 214 women and this last month we have provided pedagogy training to the teachers who take care of these classes.
These actions are part of the Woman to Woman program, which promotes equal opportunities and women’s access to education, health and well-being. Most of the women who attend class barely went to school because their families were very poor and they married early or because they were not taken into account. Learning or strengthening their knowledge of reading, writing and mathematics boosts their participation in family and community life and helps them confront the discrimination they suffer in all areas.
The students of the Woman to Woman program attend classes at least two days a week (by level, beginners, intermediate and advanced), only interrupted by rain or strong heat.
Likewise, we reinforced the training of 10 teachers in pedagogical methodology of Bengali, English and mathematics to facilitate effective and communicative learning with the students.
Within the line of improving women’s health care, during the month of May, 81 students in the program received specific gynecological assistance.
