In India, we continue to support the schooling of girls and boys in impoverished areas such as Sunderbans and Murshidabad. Our educational reinforcement program is offered in 19 schools and includes teacher training to achieve better student outcomes. The goal is to improve the basic skills of more than 2,000 schoolchildren so they can continue their education in public schools at least through primary school. Without this support, many children end up dropping out of school, due to a lack of resources and also because they lack the knowledge necessary to advance to the next level.

In our program, around 50 teachers teach  remedial classes with a pedagogical focus. They conduct regular assessments and monitor students from  first to  sixth grade to identify gaps and achieve better results. The first semester exam of the year was conducted in July,  which showed significant improvements in the children’s learning.

Also in July, teachers and students celebrated World Environment Day with talks on the importance of environmental conservation and activities such as tree planting and International Yoga Day to raise awareness among children about the physical and mental benefits of yoga. “Yoga teaches mindfulness and respect, not only for ourselves but also for the environment around us,” the teachers comment.

Scope of the educational reinforcement program:

→1,252 children in the Sunderbans

→ 849 boys and girls in Murshidabad.
