At the end of July, Global Humanitaria participated in the 1st Municipal Congress of Youth and Women’s Policy organized by the Municipality of Poptún, in collaboration with various governmental and non-governmental institutions with the aim of promoting the development and participation of women in public dynamics. The policies discussed and formulated during the event will be essential to guide the next years of management in the municipality.
The Congress took place in the Municipal Hall of Poptún and was attended by 200 young people, women and representatives of local institutions such as the AMA Association, which promotes the integral development and rights of adolescent girls and young women; MAGA, Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Food; the Municipal Youth Office, (OMJ); delMSPAS, Ministry of Public Health and Social Assistance and organizations that work in the field of youth such as SODEJU among others.
All of them discussed and addressed topics such as:
1. Integral Education science and technology
2. Comprehensive Health
3. Work, productivity and economic initiatives and entrepreneurship
4. Recreation, sport and physical activity, art and cultural expressions
5. Prevention of violence, addressing conflict and building peace
6. Organization and participation
7. Environment and ecological environment
8. Identity and Culture
Global Humanitarian works with 23 marginal Q’Eqchi, rural and urban Mayan communities, enhancing the role of women and young women through training and sustainable production programs, as well as training on sexual and reproductive rights.
Policies aimed at young people and women are essential to ensure that the new generations are trained, educated and prepared to contribute to the economic and social development of the municipality, incorporating women and young people into the labor market and in non-traditional sectors can diversify the economy and increase the economic resilience of the municipality.
