GLADYS PAZ. DIRECTORA NACIONAL DE GLOBAL HUMANITARIA GUATEMALA
In 2002, Global Humanitaria began to work in the southeastern area of Petén Department, serving the most vulnerable rural area population the children in the communities of the municipalities of San Luis, Poptún, and Dolores.
Poverty and child malnutrition particularly affect families in our work area; hence, our projects aim to improve food security in four Maya Q’eqchi’ communities by means of school gardens and canteens. We also train teachers in sexual and reproductive education so that they can tackle the problem of teenage pregnancies inside the classroom. The projects follow a gender-based and environmental approach, with an aim to guide the people towards sustainable, comprehensive, and participatory development in their communities.
