In Guatemala we promote family gardens in the El Caoba community, in Poptùn, to improve access to fresh and nutritious food for a population that has high rates of child malnutrition.
Among other activities, we have supported the fertilization and land preparation work for the establishment of vegetable piles in the gardens of 38 homes. Likewise, we collect seeds for planting.
All this after a meeting of our team with the Secretariat of Food and Nutritional Security of the municipality of Poptún and the delegate of Youth and Children of the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Food of Petén, to inform them of the workshop program that we teach “ Education for the selection, preparation and distribution of food within the home ”.
The purpose of inter-institutional coordination is to improve the food and nutritional security conditions of the communities, through workshops aimed at families on the nutritional value of foods, the recommended frequency of consumption, and alternatives for preparing the foods available in the gardens. backyard and locality.
