Prior to the start of the school year, our team in Colombia has met with directors and teachers who participate in the Let’s Learn All to Read  (ATAL) program to review the strategies used in 2023 and improve results in centers that have lower levels of literacy. .

If until now we were developing the educational program in Tumaco and Francisco Pizarro, this 2024 the program will expand to more centers with the collaboration of Unicef, reaching 54 schools in Barbacoas, la Tola, Magüí Payan, Olaya, Roberto Payan and Tumaco, the 35% of the educational centers in Nariño.

The educational team and the Protect team (prevention of child abuse) from Global Humanitaria participate in the project, as well as expert staff in literacy pedagogy.

Reading and writing, the burden of learning

The ATAL program is a methodology for improving reading and writing learning processes of the Inter-American Development Bank. Global Humanitaria implements it in alliance with the Ministry and the Secretariat of Education of Tumaco, providing training to teachers  who, with pedagogical advice and monitoring of tutors, implement innovative pedagogical actions so that students improve their literacy, oral and coexistence skills. peaceful, with a focus on gender, ethnicity and culture of peace.

Thus, the experience of Global Humanitaria in the program that we developed with teachers, families and schoolchildren from Tumaco and Francisco Pizarro, and in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, has made possible the alliance with Unicef ​​that was looking for an NGO with which to help recovery. of learning of schoolchildren in Nariño. The area, burdened by poverty, has high school dropout rates, aggravated by the pandemic.

  • 54 schools
  • 178 teachers
  • + 7,000 fathers and mothers
