In the community of El Caoba (Petén), Global Humanitaria is working with the group “Mujeres en Desarrollo” (Women in Development) to prepare the land for the installation of eight greenhouses for vegetable production . The project strengthens the productive capacities and skills of 24 women from the community.
The initial activities we are carrying out are:
→ Preparation and delimitation of land for cultivation, and the construction of drainage channels , which protect crops and improve soil moisture control.
→ Training for this group of women on soil sampling for chemical analysis; they have also collected samples from these lands.
→ Tool kit : hoes, shovels, picks, rakes and spades
→ Agricultural technical assistance in soil removal, furrow layout and construction, to optimize agricultural space, avoid erosion and resource depletion problems, and promote soil and water conservation .
→ Organic fertilizer, soil disinfection, irrigation and plastic installation
