Global Humanitaria, in coordination with governmental and non-governmental organizations, and SVET* have organized an activity aimed at 400 teachers from the department of Petén on the risks of using social networks in schoolchildren not supervised by adults, including cyberbullying, sexting ( sending messages of explicit sexual content) , grooming (harassment and abuse)  and trafficking, among others. The event was attended by Guillermo Castillo. Vice President of Guatemala, who urged teachers to teach students safe ways to navigate  and to be agents of information and protection within their educational centers.

During the session it was revealed that globally , one in three users on the Internet and social networks is a girl or a boy . Most of them do not know the risks of its use, nor how to protect themselves. On the other hand, the digital divide between adults and children makes it difficult for parents, teachers or guardians to take adequate protection measures for minors.

National and international organized crime networks take advantage of this difficulty to protect themselves. In Guatemala, one of the most vulnerable sectors in the face of the crime of human trafficking are women, who represent 85.71% of the victims attended . This crime mainly affects children and adolescents, who constitute 83.44% of the victims .

The aggressors take advantage of vulnerability factors of the victims  (economic, social, age, disability) that increase the risk of being trafficked and sexually abused.
