In Petén schools we are giving workshops on violence prevention, sexual health and protection of children’s rights, both to schoolchildren and teachers, in collaboration with the Human Rights Ombudsman’s Office of Poptún.
→ Primary school students to promote comprehensive education and foster a safe school environment. In July, 265 primary school students from the Poxté rural mixed school participated in talks on sexual health, as well as strategies to identify, prevent and respond to situations of violence within the school environment. With a pedagogical and participatory approach, specialists in the field offered essential information for the healthy development and safety of students.
” It is important that children receive adequate guidance from an early age on such relevant issues as sexual health and violence, so that they can grow up in a safe environment and be informed about their rights and responsibilities ,” said Benjamín Coboj, one of the speakers at the talks.
→ 65 teachers from 10 schools who are studying the Diploma in Comprehensive Sexual Education with Violence Prevention, to strengthen their ability to teach this subject responsibly and effectively and provide them with the necessary tools to confidently and sensitively address issues related to sexual health in the classroom.
In this 5th module, “A New Way of Seeing Relationships with the World” Puberty and Adolescence”, led by pedagogical advisors in coordination with technicians from Global Humanitaria Guatemala, the following topics were discussed:
- Right to have rights without, label
- Importance of puberty and innocence and adolescence for full development
- A new way of seeing relationships with the world
- Affectivity
- The peer group in adolescence
- Awareness and personal risk and vulnerability
