We begin classes with a first group of students who will help organize and energize school and community libraries in Tumaco . The workshops address aspects related to the operation of library spaces and associated material, to the organization and development of the activities that the boys and girls propose or need for their school activity.
The training of reading promoters is given to a total of 30 young people with whom they also study the rules of behavior in these work spaces, how they can acquire tools for the proper management of children’s groups and their role as school leaders. The work of Global Humanitaria to improve the literacy of primary school children includes the promotion of libraries as learning spaces and also as sociocultural spaces for linking with the environment .
In Colombia, 10th and 11th grade students must carry out an 80-hour social service directed to the community. In the areas where we work, the options are limited to public safety: police, civil guard or firefighters. In this sense, Global Humanitaria has an agreement with the Municipal Secretary of Tumaco that allows these young people a cultural alternative of social service through the “Educando para la Paz” project: training and doing internships as reading promoters in libraries.
