The school gardens remain active: in five of them we have harvested just over 123k of vegetables, to include in the diets of schoolchildren and their families. In seven other gardens, planting and transplanting of seedbeds has been carried out, including potatoes, carrots, cabbages and cucumbers.
These actions are part of our program to improve the food security of families, greatly affected by the low production of the main crops in the area (potatoes, goose, beans and wheat) due to extreme changes in climate, droughts , frost or hail.
In addition to the promotion of school gardens in Vacas, Arbieto and Tarata, Global Humanitaria, from the school and together with community associations :
- Promotes family gardens, training and accompanying 9 Vacas community leaders in the creation of nurseries where they can produce vegetable seedlings for 150 families.
- Assists in school canteens , technically, nutritionally and with the provision of products ( meat and gas ) for the preparation of food in five schools with canteens. So far, 36,690 rations have been distributed to 378 schoolchildren.
- Provides training workshops on incidence and social control to the Educational Councils of five school cafeterias (and other educational units without a cafeteria),
- Train fathers and mothers who take care of the canteens on issues of food safety, nutrition, hygiene and health
