The right to education is one of the most powerful protections and opportunities for children. That’s why it’s a core component of the programs that Global Humanitaria implements in partnership with the communities we work with.

On Kumirmari Island and in Murshidabad (India), we provide after-school tutoring to improve the skills of over 1,200 children and keep them in school longer. School, and education itself, become a protective space for children, shielding them from early marriage and child labor, especially when we manage to involve families and the community in childcare related to education, health, and nutrition.

In recent weeks , teachers participating in our educational program have been working across 19 schools to improve their students’ skills in core subjects . Their active involvement facilitates better reading comprehension, enhances academic performance, and optimizes children’s overall learning outcomes. We also provide training to 45 teachers in pedagogical methods to facilitate their students’ learning, not only in literacy and mathematics but also in hygiene, environmental awareness, and nutrition. They then share this knowledge with the children in their classes and with their families, with whom they hold regular meetings.   In Murshidabad, 16 teachers, and in Kumirmari, 45, are essential to our work. They work with us to assess student progress and serve as a point of contact for information and promotion of healthy practices throughout the community, in an area where poverty makes children particularly vulnerable to child labor and early marriage.

As in all impoverished areas where we work, education is a fundamental right that must be protected every day to prevent the growing inequality of opportunity from early childhood.
